January’s speaker, at a very well attended meeting, was Jennie Cartwright from Lincs Inspire. Her illustrated talk about family history, focused on to research it, the resources available to use and the stories that can be found.
Jennie told of the various websites that can be accessed to obtain information on your family’s background as well as the more traditional Births ,Marriages and Deaths registers and Electoral registers. A very handy fact sheet listing the various websites was issued.
After the tea break Jennie gave us an example of a Grimbarian’s history. This started with a photograph of St James Church that included an advertising sign; references in the local newspapers and finally a cemetery register revealed the person being advertised. By taking on the ‘research journey’ we were given an insight into the varied sources we can all use to find out about our ancestors.
Finally, Jennie said that the Library staff at the Central library were always willing to provide help and guidance. She is a well-known face in the central library and confirmed to us just how much the library role has changed - of which I can confirm from personal experience. And, oh yes! You can use their computers!
