Part of the MS&LR’s station of 1874 at Cleethorpes, long known as Mermaid Café but originally the station’s Waiting Room, is to undergo renovation works as part of Cleethorpes Townscape Heritage programme (funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund) with match funding from The Railway Trust.
“The project will see conservation work to the Victorian cast iron framework of the building, as well as full restoration and conservation of the timber elements of the building. The building will also be re-roofed, and cast iron gutters and downpipes will also be replaced.
The building will be repainted in the original livery colours of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway company.” https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/mermaid-cafe-buildings-bright-new-future/
GCDCS have followed the proposals for restoration with interest – we have had a GCDCS & Cleethorpes Heritage Walking Trail plaque on the building for some years and only recently replaced the plaque due to the theft of the original last year!
