At the Annual General Meeting of the Grimsby, Cleethorpes and District Civic Society the retiring Chairman, Martyn Turner, launched a new publication Local list of Foundation Stones in Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
This includes foundation stones found on buildings throughout the borough, and they have been placed into the following categories:
Education
Religious establishments
Municipal buildings
Housing developments
Coronation/Jubilee
Miscellaneous

For each foundation stone recorded, there is a photograph of the foundation stone, the building it is on or near to, and details of the inscription.
The idea for this work was prompted by a letter to the Society from Dr Rod Ambler, who was concerned about the potential loss of foundation stones due to demolition of the building, vandalism or deterioration of the stone itself. The work would not have been possible without a valuable contribution of photographs of stones by Graham Taylor and other members of the Society.
Copies are available from the Society via the Society’s mail address.
