One of the Grimsby projects that GCDCS representatives have been involved in consultation about, concerns the redevelopment work going on around The Minster with NELC/Engie and the community arts company The Big Picture and their arts project Our Haven.

Out Haven Project“Our Haven is a community heritage and arts project for everyone in Grimsby, no matter who you are. It is for the people of the town to explore where we come from, who we are, and where  we are going. You have the chance to share your stories and ideas, and shape an artistic vision of Grimsby’s future.”

The Big Picture is looking for contributions from everyone – look them up to see how you can get involved:

The Big Picture is particularly keen to find anyone who has any information or stories of involvement with the archaeological excavations carried out in the area in the years 1986-7 and around our Riverhead in 1989. Contact The Big Picture via the website above or direct to

Covid-19 restrictions have severely hampered the ability to encourage community interaction during the £1.5m project to transform the area into a family friendly space since work started last June.  The Fisherman’s Memorial Statue has been re-sited but remains a key feature alongside new lighting and landscaping, CCTV and street furniture.  There will also be Notice Board ‘way finders’ to fit with points on new Town Trails.  GCDCS were heavily involved in developing these Trails in conjunction with NELC/Engie, and they were due to be launched last Easter in both digital and printed medias but hopefully will be available later this year – once such things are possible to so socialy!
