Many of you will have seen by now that work has started on the re-invention of St James’ Square into a modern, family-friendly public space as part of the Heritage Action Zone. As part of the local community involvement, our members as well as local people and schools are asked for anecdotes, memories etc. about events in St James’ Square over the years. It could be a wedding, or a public event, or even a personal one!

Our Big Picture is the local arts organisation commissioned to work with artists, designers, engineers and historians to make the ‘Our Haven’ project a reality.

The Grimsby, Cleethorpes and District Civic Society’s is already supporting ‘Our Haven’ with chairman Alan Nicholson as part of the discussion group along with other local people.

The arts project is being supported by the Cultural Development Fund (CDF). The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport funds the CDF, which is administered by Arts Council England. Along with the on-going work on Garth Lane, the project is managed by ENGIE on behalf of North East Lincolnshire Council, with funding from Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (Humber LEP) as part of the Government’s commitment to the Northern Powerhouse.

The ‘Our Haven’ project is looking forward to hearing your stories to make them part of the new St James Square story.
